Virtual University Doubles as Social Network
Last month, two entrepreneurs opened the digital doors on a new university, TrainingU 24/7, according to a recent Chicago Sun-Times article. Over the Internet, students can take part in courses from various subjects including: basic computer skills, management and team building. The cost of the courses ranges from $10 to $70.
The university, which is designed to help those in career transitions, also acts as a social networking platform. Students can ask and answer questions with members in similar professional fields.
In the Chicago Sun-Times story, columnist Brad Spirrison quotes George Nicholson, one of the founders of TrainingU 24/7:
“We’re hoping to take the social aspects of traditional universities like Northwestern and bring that to the online world.”
Another online college, PrimeU 24/7, arms students with the skills used in the commercial food service industry.
